GeM Seller Registration: A Step-by-Step Guide for Indian Businesses

By Zorvex Enterprises · 10 October 2026 · 7 min read

The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) is the official online portal through which government departments and public sector organisations buy goods and services. For manufacturers, traders and service providers, it is a large and recurring source of orders. This guide explains the registration journey in plain language.

Who can sell on GeM?

Manufacturers, traders, resellers, service providers, MSMEs and startups can register as sellers, subject to GeM's eligibility rules. Your business can be a proprietorship, partnership, LLP or company.

Documents to keep ready

Requirements depend on your entity type and category and can be updated by GeM, so always confirm the current list. In general, keep these ready:

  • PAN of the business or proprietor, and Aadhaar-based authentication of the authorised person
  • Business registration proof such as partnership deed, LLP or company documents
  • GST registration, where applicable
  • Bank account details with a cancelled cheque or statement
  • Udyam registration if you are an MSE, and DPIIT recognition if you are a startup
  • Mobile number and email linked to the authorised signatory
  • Brand or OEM authorisations and product certificates where required

The registration process at a glance

  1. Choose your seller type: OEM, reseller or service provider. This choice affects documents and categories.
  2. Create your account: verify mobile, email and identity of the authorised person.
  3. Complete business details: PAN, GST, bank and address, matching your records exactly.
  4. Select categories: pick the product or service categories where you want to sell.
  5. Build your catalogue: add products or services with correct specifications, images and pricing structure.
  6. Keep the profile current: update certificates, contacts and compliance details as they change.

Does GeM charge a seller registration fee?

GeM does not charge a seller registration fee. Transaction-related charges apply as per GeM's current schedule, so check the latest charges on the portal before you start. Consultants such as Zorvex charge separately for their guidance and work.

Common reasons for delay

  • Names or details that do not match across PAN, GST and bank records
  • Wrong seller type or category selection
  • Missing or unclear certificates and documents
  • Unverified contact details for the authorised person
  • Catalogue entries that do not meet category specifications

Registration is only the start

Registering does not guarantee orders. Buyers find you through your catalogue and through bids, so a clean catalogue and careful bid participation are what turn a registration into revenue.
